As believers in Christ Jesus, we are called to make Disciples of Christ from all nations of the world. Discipleship comes after people have received Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. This in turn is a direct result of people hearing the Gospel being proclaimed to them and having been convicted by the Holy Spirit and they surrender their lives to God.
If the proclamation of the Gospel is done in a language unknown to the hearers, it is difficult for them to grasp its content and intent. We think that this is why Missionaries take time to learn the language of the target people group they are convicted that the Lord is sending them to as his witnesses or ambassadors. The other thing about knowing the language of the hearers is that it helps them identify with us and bring a sense of belonging and trust. It is gives the impression that the person who took time to learn a language for effective communication has a sense of respect and values the other people’s culture.
Now, come to think of someone who has ventures out into foreign lands, and happens to meet someone else that he doesn’t know but speaks his own language! What happens when he learns that this person is from his own village, country or region? He/she takes him/her to be his brother/sister and is ready to listen, offer /receive assistance to/from this dear person. This very reason is at the basis of MAWAKILI WA NENO LA MUNGU to come up with this project for Kiswahili speakers in Northern America.
